Speranza
Duchesne had appeared at the Teatro Lirico, Parigi.
Duchesne had fought during the Franco-Prussian war, was wounded, and, with his arm still in a sling, had sung "Fausto" at Bordeaux, wich wuch success that he was engaged for the Opera Comica.
Launched on a second career, Duchesne now revelaed a FULL SOLID VOICE.
Duchesne used his head voice much less and sang much more from the chest than older tenors such as Couderc or Victor Capoul.
At Monte Carlo, Duchesne's voice was described as full of fire, vibrant, and well managed.
His "Salve, o casta e pia dimora" received an OVATION.
