La piramide di Caio Cestio, Roma

Speranza

The praetor Caio Cestio died in 12 BC.

His monument near the Port S. Paolo is of brick cased in dazzling white marble.

The Protestant Cemetery, nearby, is a memorial to many northeners who sought fulfilment in Rome and died there.

Among the graves are those of Shelley, Keats, Severn, Trelawney and Ballantyne, Alexander von Humboldt's and Goethe's son.

The shadow of this great pyramid tomb fell upon St. Paul when he walked out of Rome to his martyrdom.
