Opera di Montecarlo

Speranza

The Opera di Monte Carlo is a smaller replica of the Opera di Parigi. Looking at the facciate of both theatres one sees that the architecture is almost identical. Certainly the two minarets of the Monte Carlo opera stand higher at either side than the gilt winged figures which surmount each side of the Opera di Parigi, but then the minarets are intended to be een from far out at sea. The main difference occurs where the loggia of the Opera di Parigi is replaced by three enormous arcaded windows, each nine metres high, which form the centre of the Monte Carlo facciata and which are the important source of daylight for the theatre's auditorium.
