Speranza
Less of the elegant "Tempio di Castore e Polluce" has survived than of many of the Greek remains in Agrigento.
But this fragment is of special interest.
The milky stucco with which the builders coated the local stone can still be seen clinging to the upper parts of the columns and to the architrave, and some of the stone sltaes which which the temple was roofed are still in place.
The temple dates from the 5th century.
The name by which it is known is "purely arbitrary", professor Arance tells me. It was in reality dedicated to Dionisio Zagreo.
