Bandinelli: manierismo scultorico -- "Ercole e Caco"

Speranza

Bandinelli's success as due to one factor.

In a crude form, Bandinelli applied to stautary the principles of the PICTORIAL (disegno) style known as the "maniera".

Whatever the sculptural defects of the "ERCOLE E CACO", the 'gruppo scultorico' could be seen, when it was completed and installed in its allotted place outside the Palazzo della Signoria, that its figures, with their swollen musculature, their crude acction, and the insistent geometry were in general conformity with the figures employed a decade earlier by Rossi in "Moses and the Daughters of Jehtro", now in the Uffizi.
