The "Bacco" was set up in 1519 in the Villa di Giovanni Bartolini, GUALFONDA, in the garden courtyard on a red and white marble base by Benedetto da Rovezzano.

The classical model is identified by M. Horster:

with a BACCO in the Museo TORLONIA, which is recorded in the seventeenth-century in the PALAZZO FARNESE -- for this, v. Jacobus Marchuccius, ANTIQUARUM STATUARUM, Roma, 1623.
