If a colossal statue is incommunicatve and anti-social, we prefer the multi-figure 'istoria' with a naturalistics setting.

Alberti wrote:

"The greatest work is NOT a colossus, but an istoria."

Albert was objecting to ancient colossal statues.

For Albert, the 'istoria' is the most ADEPT and SOPHISTICATED way of expressing a social relation -- and this so long as the two figures 'HARMONISE IN SIZE' -- and function.

LIFE-SIZE figures are best.
