Nothing a strange imbalance toward the feminine among recent gener projects in the fine arts, we decided to confront that most loaded of cultural constructs: masculinity.

Paradoxically elusive by virtue of being so pervasive, and resistant by virtue of being assumed to be unconditional and universal, masculinity has proved a slippery target for investigators.

Research soon reveals, however, a number of male artists for whom masculinity's poses, props, and guiseds, present a rich territory.
