PIERINO da Vinci's "SANSONE E IL FILISTEO" inaugurate a LONG series of two-figure action groups.
When the Perugian sculptor Vincenzo DANTI determined, about 1561, to prove himself in marble sculpture, his subject was "HONOUR triumphant over FALSEHOOD". Ammanati included a Victory in one of his first works in Florence. A climax was reached when, at the obsequies of Michelangelo, the tafalque was surrounded by FOUR two-figure groups.
