Speranza
The role of a statue in a NATURAL SETTING (all'aperto) differs from that of a statue in a public street, or a public square, or a church.
A statue in a garden, say, is surrounded by the LIVING ORGANISMS of trees and plants.
The statue, from trees and plants, takes on a VICARIOUS LIFE, as though it too had grown ORGANICALLY where it stands.
The FIRST SCULPTOR to sense that was TRIBOLO, in the beautiful figure of a RIVER GOD in the VILLA CORSINI, which is cmpounded of every artifice known to sculptors in the second quarter of the cinquecento, but none the less has the timelessness of a natural phenomenon.
