The stance of Peseo

Speranza

The stance of Perseo in the bronze is LESS STABLE than in the wax, partly because the right foot rests on the cushion, not the base, and partly because the left foot is shown touching, but no more than touching, the stomach of MEDUSA.

The bronze is very carefully worked up.

The sandals and one wing on the left heel are treated in great detail, and though the modelling of the body is more generalised, the thighs and torso preserve much of the freshness of the wax figure.

The sword held in the right hand is intact.

The head is again depicted LOOKING DOWN, though less decisively than in the wax, and, BEAUTIFUL AS IS ITS PROFILE, the effect it makes is weaker partly because the helmet is elaborated WITH TWO WINGS.

Its least happy feature is the raised left arm, which is less strongly modeled than the arm holding the sword.

The angle of the forearm and the attachment opf the hand holding the Medusa head, now shown with blood pouring from the neck, are not properly worked out.
