Tiberio was tempted by a copy of Lysippus' Apoxyomenos, a nude athlete scraping off the oil used to highlight muscles. This had been set up in one of Rome's public bathhouses.
Tiberio ordered the Apoxyomenos removed to his own bedroom.
This set off such a public outcry that 'the emperor, although he had fallen quite in love with the Apoxyomenos, had to restore him."
