Bissari-Kerll, "Ippolito" (Monaco, 1662)

Speranza

"Ippolito" by Ziani (Venezia) was perhaps the first reference, in a musical drama, to Ippolito. There's also "Ippolito redivivo" -- Venezia, 1658, also.

Then there's the key work: "Ippolito", by Ortuso (Monzio) and Vannarelli (also spelt Vanarelli), Teatro Nobili, Spoleto, carnevale, 1661.

The next year, in Monaco, Bissari's libretto, "Fedra incoronata" (and "Giustificata", and "Medea", a trilogy) was staged. Stage designs showing the fall of Ippolito (and his rising back to his feet).

Ziani had composed other operas. Vannarelli possibly wrote just two.

But the music to Bissari's libretto was by a recognised composer.

Kerll.
