Luci miei traditrici: Sciarrino -- opera -- vita di Carlo Gesualdo, tratto da Cicognini, "Il tradimento per l'onore" (1664). "Madrigal opera".

Speranza

Salvatore Sciarrino was born in Palermo.

He is a musical autodidact and was encouraged by Antonio Titone (Luigi Rognini's assistant at the Institute for Music History at the University of Palermo) and Turi Belfiore (composer and university lecturer) for some time.

He began to compose at the age of 12.

In 1962, one of his works was performed publicly for the first time at the Terza Settimana Internazionale di Nuova Musica in Palermo.

In 1969, he moved to Rome and then to Milan where he taught composition at the Conservatory.

Today he lives in Perugia.

He lectures at the conservatory in Florence and teaches several further educational courses.

The catalog of his works includes 130 titles.

This does not include the works he composed before 1965, because he considers them only learning experiences.

----- OPERA

The plot in Cicognini's drama and the story of "Luci mie traditrici" is based on the murder of

Maria d'Avalos

at the hands of her husband, the Renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo.

Here is a terrific subject for an opera. Tratto da Cicognini, "Tradimento per l'onore" (1664).
