tenore eroico

Speranza

tenore eroico
tenore robusto
tenore di forza

"Germany needs a hero, not a heroic tenor". (The implicature was that Hitler was _like_ a heroic tenor, rather than a hero. Pun on 'held' and 'heldentenor').

-- But the German opera house can do with one.

Note that in German you can use 'heroe' to mean 'hero' (eroe). So 'held' is NOT STRICTLY a 'hero' in the graeco-roman idea of the thing.

cfr. Wagner's heroenthema, etc.
