The title of this,
"Le 100 più belle statue romane antiche -- dall'A alla Z"
is, perhaps, not too precise, but I'm making a point.
I'm revising the catalogue of a hundred entries from the celebrated Haskell-Petty's
historical survey, "L'antico nella storia del gusto: la seduzione della scultura classica, 1500-1900
We have re-ordered the hundred entries alphabetically.
We are mainly concerned with statues found in Rome, even if Haskell and Petty have added a very few from Greece, such as the celebratedVenus de Milo.
They provide provenance for each, and the book makes for some fascinating reading.
In any case, here is the list, which I have not seen elsewhere, as we may want to comment on particular pieces.
The idea of selecting "one hundred", as they note, can be traced to early engravers of these
things.

--- Obviously NOT Antino, but since the statue was found in the Mausoleum Adrianum, little did they take care to think twice.
It is particularly important in the history of 'museology', since it occupies one of the four corners of the "Cortile Ottagonale".
Note that the specific name for this museum is, somewhat pretentiously, "PIO CLEMENTINO", which I prefer to refer to as Ganganelli-Breschi. The Cortile was of course built by "Bramante" as commissioned by the head behind all this: Giuliano della Rovere (Giulio II).

APOLLO pizio, Belvedere.
Giuliano della Rovere loved this statue, and only very recently the very history of its roundabouts has been discovered. The name 'pizio' is particularly apt.
During the Napoleonic regime, the statue was transferred to Paris (which in the long run was a good thing, as it added to the statue's prestige). To compensate for the momentary loss, the pope commissioned Canova the "PERSEO trionfante", which, in a nice gesture, still stands today in the "Cortile ottagonale", next to three Ancient Roman relics.
