Porteriana: "VERY GOOD, EDDIE" (Palace Theatre, London)

Speranza

Song by Porter: "Alone with you" -- co-written with Melville Gideon.

Porter escaped the Great War draft by going to his beloved France, where he was involved with a society-sponsored food distribution programme.

He spent the Great War attending and throwing parties, not in the French Foreign Legion, as reported in later years.

Song-writing continued as a hobby, with trips across the channel to interpolate in London musicals.

With the exception of a few attempts at revues, Porter spent the next ten years as a very talented dilettante.
