THE FRESCOES by Luca FERRARI da Reggio for the trasnept hall of the piano nobile, VILLA SELVATICO (1650)

Speranza

The villa belonged to the SELVATICO family, as the name suggests.

It rises high above the hill of SANT'ELENA in Battaglia Terme.

The actual owner was BENEDETTO SELVATICO, a man of great culture, a lecturer at the Studio Patavino, and head physician to the king of Poland.

The frescoes include

THE FLIGHT OF ANTENOR from Troy
LYCAON consecrating the dagger of APOLLO
The victory of ANTENOR over VALESIO, king of the Illyrians.
THE FOUNDING OF PADOVA -- lovely!
