This remarkable theatre was Palladio's last work, and he did not live to see it completed.
It was finished by Scamozzi in 158-.
The interior of the theatre is built entirely of wood and stucco, with fixed scenery representing the piazza and streets of an antique citdy in perfect perspective.
The sculptures are by Rubini and Albanese.
The theatre is candle-lit, the candles being attached to the bases of the states above the Corinthian colunmns.
In his skilful use of illusion, the brilliance with which he unfies separate spaces by optical devices in his theatre, Palladio anticipates Baroque practice.
