Speranza
More a decorator than a painter, Veronese depicted all that was most superficial in Venice.
In the elegant villa built by Palladio at Maser, Veronese painted his most original and attractive works.
These are the large frescoes that decorate the main rooms, and with their 'trompe-l'oeil' effects create architectural designs in the same style as those on the outside of the villa.
The young man with his dogs returning from the hunt, who seems to be entering the room through a door -- also in 'trompe-l'oeil' -- is thought to be a self-portrait of Veronese.
