Villa Barbaro, Maser, was degined by Palladio and decorated by Veronese, probably soon after 1560.
The house was built for Daniele and Marcantonio Barbaro, who belonged to one of the oldest families of Venice.
The rooms are grouped about a central cruciform hall and one end of the cross has been divided off to form a square alone, the "Aula".
This is but one of a whole series of rooms, the walls and ceilings of which are wholy covered with "affreschi" by Paolo Veronese, assisted by G. B. Zelotti.
