People -- some people! -- have often wondered why Grice never brought the problem of 'significatio' to the Saturday mornings. And the canonical answer is that Austin forbade the discussion of stuff that had already undergone printing!
Well, Grice's essay on 'signification' never undergone printing during Austin's days.
What's more to the point is that 'A plea for excuses' had -- but Grice would not dare bring such dull topic as Austin's mistake in dealing with 'adverbs' -- no modification without aberration.
Austin is not even mentioned in "Causal Theory of Perception," since, as many saw, Grice was still grieving Austin's demise.
But in "Prolegomena," it looks as if Grice is PLAYING and having FUN in dealing with Austin's mistake in a way and in a manner that he would never have displayed in the presence of the Master of the 'kindergarten'!
