Speranza
The architecture of Michelangelo is profoundly original, although based on classical elements.
This originality can be most clearly seen in the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana.
Starting with the vestibule, a small, high-ceilinged room, the vertical lines of which contrast with the horizontal lines of the library to which it serves the embrace.
Michelangelo wanted the reader to feel estranged and isolated from the outside world.
This impression is conveyed by the articulation of the walls, broken up by twin columns which are not used to support but which are in themselves elements of force.
