The garden at Caserta is a two-mnile long ribbon vista of sparkling water caught between grass verges, leading on and on from the gigantic palace past cascades, fountains, and sculptured groups until it is at last closed by a thunderous waterfall rushing like a two-pronged fork of lighning down a wooded hillside from the Carolina aqueduct, specially constdructed to bring the water from Monte Taburno more than twenty miles away.
The garden was designed by Luigi Vanvittelli.
