Palladio: La "Villa Malcontenta", 1511, Venezia

Speranza

The inventor of the 'temple-villa' was Palladio.

Palladio created the temple-villas for the aristocracy of Vicenza, who loved to meet in the country to discuss philosophy or organise entertainments.

Palladio opportunely revived architectural classicism at the very moment when it seemed to be on the wane and when the Baroque trend was beginning to make itself felt.

The "Villa Malcontenta", built for the Doge Foscari, was the first villa commissioned from Palladio by a Venetian.

It was the consecration of the fame he had won at Vicenza, a fame that from the 18th century onwards was to become worldwide and was to win him many imitators.

This villa's majestic simplicity is the result of the perfect balance of its proportions.
