CAMPIDOGLIO

Speranza

EVERY NOW AN D THEN restorations and reconstructions were undertaken, but it was BONIFACE IX (Tomacelli, 1389-1404) who gave the PALAZZO SENATORIO its apperance of a fortress by having the LARGE TOWER facing MONTE CAPRINO constructed and the entire building strengthened, thus enhancing it architecturally and rendering it more solid.

It was near by that NICHOLAS V (Parentucelli, 1447-1455), seconding the fervent with of the ROMAN CONSERVATORI (whose power had increased considerably upon the decline of that of the SENATOR0) had a worthy seat erected for them, availing himself of an OLD CONSTRUCTION existing to the right of the PALAZZO SENATORIO.

And in place of this modest building arose a FINE PALACE constisting of a ground floor and one above having cross windows.
