Speranza
THE PALAZZO dei CONSERVATORI was decorated with CORINTHIAN pilasters reaching up to the entablature, and retained its LOGGIA, the arches of which were substituted by an architrave, furthermore adorned with IONIC columns.
THE FOURTH side of the PIAZZA was limited by a MONUMENTAL balustrade, open in the middle so as to have a wide space FREE for the magnificent "CORDONATA", the approach which led from the PIAZZA below to the summit of the hill.
HOWEVER, only a small part of BUONARROTI's plan was carried out during his lifetime, this being due tiehr to the important works undertaken by him in the VATICANO, or possibly to a secret reluctance to destroy the picturesque appearance of the old CAMPIDOGLIO.
