Growing luxury of living is reflected in fourteenth-century dwellings in Florence.

An elegant staircase was added to the courtyard of the Palazzo Bargello during this period.

The palace, built between 1254 and 1346, was the house of the "Podestà", the city's chief magistrate, who lost some of his powers to the gonfalonier of justice, but kept his honorary title.
