A ROMAN HEAD

Speranza

What mattered for the ROMAN was the head.

The body is a mere prop for the head.

Standard body types, like the cuirassed general, the togate magistrate, or the matron as Venere, were FASHIONED IN WORKSHOPS -- with the heads carved SEPARATELY by a special portrait artist.
