GRICE: THE CONVERSATIONAL CATEGORY

Whereas Grice is JOKING when he says he is 'echoing Kant' in Grice's use of the idea of a Conversational Category -- Conversational Quality, Conversational Quantity, Conversational Relation, Conversational Modus -- the implicature becomes: categories of WHAT? Of conversation! Therefore we have a Principle of Conversation -- with Conversation playing the metier of Substantia -- vide his Category Shift -- and each Conversational Category as applying to it. Grice's task was to make them co-ordinate -- as Kantotle often doesn't!
