The Operas of Antonio Vivaldi

Speranza

This is a complete list of the operas of Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (n. Venezia, 1678– m. Vienna, 1741).

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi claimed to have composed 94 operas.

In fact, fewer than 50 titles have been identified, of which the scores of 20 or so operas survive, wholly or in part.

Moreover, the practice of reviving works under a different title and of creating pasticci has confused musicologists -- and other.

All Vivaldi's works are described as "dramma per musica" ("melodramma"), approximately equivalent to "opera seria". He wrote no comedies. Does this say something about his personality. It doesn't.

I have used the following Key:

music completely lost

music preserved at least in part
