KENSETTIANA: "Passing off of a storm". In addition to Kensett's paintings that specifically name the Connecticut coast as the subject, there are other paintings certainly done at Contentment Island, Connecticut, that are titled with reference to weather patterns or the time of day. For example, "Passing off of the storm" includes a view of one of the distinctive Fish Islands in the placid waters of Long Island Sound. Other paintings (from his "Last Summer's work") with nonspecifici titles as to location were described in contemporary newspaper accounts as scenes from the artist's cottage at Contentment Island, Connecticut.
