Bernini's earliest statues are INVARIABLY constructed round a classical (Graeco-Roman) motif.

In the "PLUTONE e PROSERPINA" an antique fragment determines the posture of PLUTONE.

In the APOLLO E DAFNI, the APOLLO is based on the APOLLO DEL BELVEDERE.

In the DAVIDE, the least successful and most academic of the statues, the stance is inspired by the GLADIATORE BORGHESE (now in the Louvre).
