Speranza
Luca Signorelli's "School of Pan", painted for the Medici about 1490 is explicitly sexual.
It is based on a tale of multiple unrequited loves by the Greek poet Moschos.
The painting includes all of passion's permutations.
Its central figure is the goat-footed god, enthroned over a pastoral gathering that incudes the handsome nude pipe-player OLIMPO, whom he made his musical disciple and lover.
PAN holds his own instrument, the reed pipes.
