Trebonio ed "Il Bravo" di Tiziano

Speranza

Derived from

seventeenth-century descriptions by art biographer and painter, Carlo Ridolfi, there is

evidence that the painting may represent an episode from Plutarch’s
Life of Marius.

According to Ridolfi, the aggressor’s name is Caius Lucius, a soldier who makes

homosexual advances upon Trebonius.
