In 1800, New Lane in Stratford, Long Island Sound, bridged Ferry Creek and
led to Daniel Curtis's shipyard, the ropewalk, and the upper wharf.
The yard, on Curtis Pond, had been busy building ships for centuries,
including sloops, two-masted schooners, and steam oyster boats.
Today, the road is Broad Street and the yard is Brewer's Stratford
Marina.
