In Wolfram's poem, PERCIVALLE weeps over the dead birds he has just killed -- Wagner repeats the motif with PERCIVALLE killing the swan and adds the philosophical significance of empathy as the basis for morality that he draws from Schopenhauer's essay on the subject.
