Bernini nella'Accademia di Belli Arti, Parigi

Speranza

The remarks by Bellini were made to men who, Bernini felt, could better study in Rome.

For this reason, Bernini began by saying that THEY, at the Academy, should have CASTS of **ALL** the _great_ pieces of antique sculpture -- for the instructin of the young, who should be required to DRAW from them in order to "FORM A FIRST IDEA OF BEAUTY that would serve them all their lives".

If set to draw first from NATURE, they would be ruined, for NATURE is almost always WEAK and INSIGNIFICANT.
