CELSUS, A. Cornelius -- dal "Dizionario di letteratura erotica" (Wedeck)

Speranza

CELSUS, A. Cornelius
--- Roman encylopedist who flourished in the first century A. D.
In the medical section, "De re medica", he dwells on the erotic and sexual vocabulary.
The Greeks, he asserts, use sexual terms without hesitation, while the Romans are more restrained in this regard.

"Next come those items that refere to the unmentionable parts."

"Among the Greeks, the names for those are more acceptable and now in common use, since they are readily employed by physicians in practically every textbook and in their talk.

Among us the expressions are VULGAR and are not viewed with favour even by customary practice when men speak with respect for decency.
