Michelangelo's source of inspiration for the "DAVID" was the colossal HORSE TAMERS on the QUIRINAL, which are within a few millimetres of the same height, but as Vasari claimed in 1550, the "DAVID" surpassed the HORSE TAMERS and ALL the other colossal statues that were to be seen in Roma.
