The statue was dug up in PESARO in October 1530, during building operations carried out by A. BARIGNANO. He presented the statue to FRANCESCO Maria della ROVERE, who lived in the VILLA IMPERIALE, near PESARO. When Francesco's descendant, VITTORIA della Rovere, married FERDINANDO II de' Medici, her father, the DUKE of URBINO, sent it to FIRENZE, complete with pedestal. This was in 1630.
