Trucanted but sublime, it bears the inscription, "Made by Apollonius, Athenian, son of Nestor" -- identying it as a 1st-century BC Greek original.
You can see that this powerfully articulated sculpture must have profoundly influenced Michelangelo, particularly in his Sistine ceiling paintings -- i venti ignudi --.
