Glauco

Speranza

The personage who accompanies Bacco t Lerna is Glauco.

Glauco hurled himself into the sea out of love for Melicertes.

The Cretan myth of Glauco and Polyeidos is the story of an initiation. Everything is there; the mystical death (the honey into which Polyeidos falls), the delgation of power from the father to the teacher, the personal relationship and isolation of master and disciple, education, and resurrection.

The erastes is called the eispnelos, 'he who breathes into'. "To breath into" means "to fall in love". Spitting is an obvious metaphor for sperm.
