MARTIAL.
--- Marcus Valerius Martialis (40-104 A. D.), Roman poet.
Author of a large series of epigrammatic pieces that on occasion reveal warm tenderness -- as on the epitaph on Erotion, a young child of six -- but that are in general satirica, obsecen, coarse, libidinous, exrementitious, and stercoraceous, but remarkable for their forthrightness and their revelation of the diversity of perversions and amatory practices of his Roman contemporaries.
Book 12 of the Epigrams is particularly full of attacks on various characters, men and women, charged with adultery, fellatio, fornication, homosexuality, harlotry, and pedersasty.
