Speranza
This 'symplegma' is recorded in 1509 as among the statues taken by GIULIO II to the Belvedere.
In 1560, COSIMO de Medici was in the Villa Belvedere and liked it.
PIO IV gave the group to COSIMO, who took it to a niche under a loggia in the Palazzo Pitti, Firenze, in 1568:
"ERCOLE che scoppia ANTEO" -- "sotto loggia da basso" -- "Anticaglie, che sono nella Sala del Palazzo de' Pitti", VASARI, VITE, 1568.
