Apollodorus recounts that Asterios adopted three sons:

Minos
Sarpedon
Rhadamanthus.

In adulthood, the three men quarreled over a boy named Miletus, son of Apollo and Areia, daughte rof Cleochus.

Because Miletus preferred Sarpedon, Minos went to war, triumphed, and conquered the entire island.
