Graf Danilo
Primo: Louis Treumann.

---

Mathias Hausmann.

The Austrian baritone Mathias Hausmann studied singing with Karl Ernst Hoffmann in Graz, in the song class of Walter Berry in Vienna and - after gaining a scholarship from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden - studied with Ryland Davies at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School of the Royal College of Music in London.

He additionally worked with singers such as Cecilia Bartoli, Christa Ludwig, Thomas Quasthoff, Grace Bumbry and Ileana Cotrubas.

He is grateful, too, to his mentor Thomas Hampson from whom he gained important artistic impulses.

In the summer of 2000 Mathias Hausmann gave his opera debut as Sultan in Haydn's L'incontro improviso at the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt and at the EXPO in Hanover under Adam Fischer.

Since the 2004-2005 season he has been a member of the ensemble at the Volksoper in Vienna where, within a very short time, he has become the darling of the public.

He can regularly be seen in numerous and widely different roles on the stage of this Viennese theatre whose tradition goes back a very long time.

His roles include:

Papageno and Figaro-Graf, Dr. Falke, "Graf Danilo" and Graf Homonay The Gypsy Baron.

He can also be heard in the Austrian debut performance of Sophie's Choice with Angelika Kirchschlager and the new productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Die Ausflüge des Herrn Broucek and Die Spanische Stunde.

There are very few young singers with such an artistic range at their disposal to match that of Mathias Hausmann.

In June 2007 he replaced Thomas Hampson within very short notice for a song recital in Cologne and got most favourable reviews. In 2007 he also started out on an extensive tour in Japan with the Viennese Volksoper. In 2008 he gave his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan where he returned to open the season 2009 under Daniel Barenboim.
