Philosophy in Ancient Rome

Speranza

Following the remark that there is little to be said about ancient Roman philosophy, one can not only shatter this taboo, but many others, as we trace Roman philosophy

It all began, some say, with the seminars of the leaders of three major philosophical schools.

A few Romans stood aghast, as these philosophers reasoned both sides of an argument with equal persuasiveness.

Ciero's main effort was to create a Latin philosophical vocabulary – attempting to distil the concept of the atom into their own language.

There are misconceptions of Epicureanism.

The true epicurean life is far from the gluttonous, sybaritic existence many of us attributed to the word.

Bruto could not possibly have been a Stoic, or he would never have engineered the assassination of Julius Caesar.
