Official painter to the Medicis, whose dynasty was nearly at an end, Bronzino entered their service in 1540, after being official painter to the Duca d'Urbino.
With a sharpness and delicacy reminiscent of Holbein, Bronzino painted Bia de' Medici, daughter of Cosimo I.
