La Cattedrale di Siracusa, Sicilia

Speranza

Roman influence combined with Spanish influence to give birth in Sicily to a Baroque style of exceptional richness, abundant in ornaments.

In the facciataa of the Cattedrale, in Siracusa, added to the ancient Greek temple of Athema, i.e. Minerva, the truly Italian contribution predominates.

This appears in the coupling and superimposition of the Corinthian columns and in the breaks of the cornices.

But the sculpture of the capitals is Spanish in its exuberance.
